Dear Publisher:
Every three months, our online catalogue,
New Age Books Abroad,
is sent by email as a PDF file to 5,000 foreign language publishers in 37 countries worldwide. Each issue
contains display ads for 20-30 New Age books from 10-15 publishers. The
purpose of the ads is to sell translation rights to your books.
Most non-English language publishers are constantly on the prowl for U.S. and
U.K. books for translation into their own languages. Usually, they find these
books at publishers’ trade shows like the Frankfurt Book Fair.
New Age Books Abroad
is an alternative to these trade shows. We give non-English language publishers
the opportunity to find out about your book simply by receiving our catalogue on
their computer and reading your ad. The foreign publisher may ask you for a
complimentary copy of your book. That publisher may decide to buy translation
rights to your book. If this happens, all you have to do is sign a contract with
the publisher, just as you would if you were selling your book to a local
publisher. From then on, the foreign language publisher handles
everything—translation, production, publication and distribution. You pay
nothing. And you may receive a healthy advance against royalties (along with
the royalties you will receive). New Paradigm Books’s Conversations with Eternity: The
Forgotten Masterpiece of Victor Hugo has sold translation rights to
publishers in eight countries (Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Latvia, Mexico, Brazil,
Italy and Lithuania), largely on account of
New Age Books Abroad.
If you decide to advertise in New Age Books
Abroad, we do everything for you. We go to
AMAZON.COM and/or your website or other websites, pick up the cover image
and all necessary editorial copy, and put your ad together. We send you a proof
of your ad as a PDF file. We make changes in your ad until we have your complete
approval.

ADVERTISEMENT INSERTION AGREEMENT. We
prefer payment by credit card with insertion order, if possible.
If you advertise, you can include books you’re about to publish as well as books
you’ve already published. Remember that non-English language publishers aren’t
necessarily looking to see that your book has a good U.S. or U.K. sales track
record before they buy it. They’re only interested in how your book might sell
in their own country—and New Age books are much more popular abroad than they
are in the U.S. or U.K.
From time to time, we carry ads for books that aren’t New Age, since the
majority of the publishers to whom we send
New Age Books Abroad aren’t exclusively New
Age publishers. So, let us know if you have any “non-New Age” titles that you
might also want to advertise.
New Age Books Abroad
is not an agent or a broker. If a publisher is interested in your book, we ask
him/her to contact you directly. We don’t take part in contract negotiations. We
don’t take a percentage. Nor do we charge for copies or for subscriptions to
New Age Books Abroad
itself. What we are is an online catalogue that creates a highly competent
display ad for your book and emails that ad to 5,000 non-English language
publishers worldwide.
What kinds of results do we have? The majority of contacts between non-English
language publishers and advertisers in New
Age Books Abroad are direct, so we can’t
tell you exactly how many requests have been made for our advertisers’ books or
how many translation rights have been sold. However, since some contacts have
been made with ourselves as intermediaries, we can tell you the following:

In early
issues of New
Age Books Abroad,
we carried ads only for the
books of New Paradigm Books, along with articles we thought
might be of interest to the international publishing community.
We reproduce, below, the full text of two articles from
New Age Books Abroad, Vol. 1, No. 1.
The first is about a book published in France, A
L'Écoute de L'Au-Delà [Listening
to the Beyond] by François Brune and Rémy Chauvin, Kiron/Éditions du Félin, Philippe Lebaud,
10, rue La Vacquerie, 75011 Paris, E-mail: <Lefelin75@aol.com.>,
France, 1999.
The second is about a book published in Italy,
Symbole: L'Ultimo Messaggio.
L'Uomo, L'Anima, Lo Spirito [Symbol: The Final
Message. Man, Soul, Spirit] by Giorgio di Simone,
Edizioni Mediterranee, Roma s.r.l., 00196 Roma, Via Flaminia, 109,
tel.: 06/3235433, FAX 06/3236277, E-mail <info@ediz-mediterranee.com>,
Italy, 1999.
From Volume 1,
Number 1
Contemporary
"Instrumental Transcommunication" in France, Europe and the World
A L'Écoute de
L'Au-Delà [Listening to the
Beyond] by François Brune and Rémy Chauvin. Kiron/Éditions du Félin,
Philippe Lebaud, 10, rue La Vacquerie, 75011 Paris, E-mail: <Lefelin
75@aol.com>, France, 1999.
Whatever the reality of spirit
communication, the spirits seem to change their media of communication as
technology changes. Beginning in the mid-19th century, the preferred mode of
mediumistic "channeling" was a three-legged table tapping with one
leg. This was the case up through the early decades of our century. In À L’Écoute
de L’Au-Delà [Listening to the Beyond]—an extensive revision of
their successful 1993 En Direct de L’Au-Delà [Live from the Beyond]—coauthors
Rémy Chauvin and François Brune chart the history of ‘instrumental
transcommunication (ITC),’ the new paranormal phenomenon in which disembodied
spirits seem to speak through tape-recorders, radios, TV sets, computers and
even FAX machines. Focusing mainly on the extraordinary growth worldwide, but
with emphasis on Europe, of ITC, the book is richly documented by the often
separate visits of the two men to the leading centers of ITC research in Europe.
Both authors advance theories as to what might be behind the phenomenon, with in
particular Father Brune—a Jesuit priest who is well-known as an author in
France—not afraid to suggest that actual spirit communication of a complex and
subtle sort may be the determining factor (M. Chauvin is a sometimes skeptical
scientist and honorary professor at the Sorbonne).
Among the topics covered by Messieurs
Chauvin and Brune in this lucid and compelling book are: The pioneering
discoveries by Friedrich Jürgenson in 1959 and Konstantive Raudive in 1964 that
tape-recorders left to randomly record sometimes seem to record the words of the
dead; the growing incidence, observed particularly in Italy beginning in the
1970s, of the movement of pictures of the dead and their words across turned-off
TV screens; the researches of Maggy and Jules Harsch-Fischbach in Luxembourg,
which have famously included their recordings of the words of an entity calling
himself ‘the Technician’ dictated through a tape-recorder, and of an entity
named ‘Swejen Salter’ dictated through a computer screen (the latter seems
to be an expert on the works of Philip José Farmer); and the amazing and
controversial apparent appearance of the shade of renowned Austrian actress Romy
Schreiber to German ITC researcher Fidelio Kberle through a closed-circuit TV
set in 1982.
It all seems pretty incredible, but
this bewildering phenomenon is very much on the increase. Father Brune tells us
that "Though France is somewhat of a late-comer to these researches, small
groups are proliferating almost everywhere. ‘[ITC] echoes’ gathered in other
countries even indicate the phenomenon is beginning to be taken seriously by
those the authorities. On one of my trips I heard about a research group in Hong
Kong. I’d also been contacted twice by Japanese TV crews….in July, 1997,
São Paulo’s Folha Espirita [the journal of the Brazilian ITC movement]
reported that the Japanese had asked it for rights to publish several of the
groups transcommunication photos."
Not the least of this book’s many
fascinations are the far-ranging speculations of both Father Brune and Professor
Chauvin as to the true nature of ITC. Nothing is excluded, no logical arguments
dismissed, and some startling suggestions are put forward. We give this book top
marks. It puts its finger on the pulse of a paranormal phenomenon likely to loom
larger and larger in the years to come. -J. C.

Channeling
Italy's Best-Known
Spirit Guide
Symbole: L'Ultimo
Messaggio. L'Uomo, L'Anima, Lo Spirito
[Symbol: The Final Message. Man, Soul, Spirit] by Giorgio di Simone.
Edizioni Mediterranee, Roma s.r.l., 00196 Roma, Via Flaminia, 109, tel.:
06/3235433, FAX 06/3236277, E-mail <info@ediz-mediterranee.com>
Italy, 1999.
Dr. Giorgio di Simone, of Naples, is
one of Italy's leading investigators of paranormal behaviour. Born and bred in
Marseilles, France, Dr. di Simone is by training an architect. But, during the
early 1960s, his interest in psychic phenomena became so intense as to lead him
to co-found, and then from 1963 to 1989 preside over, the Italian Center for
Parapsychology [Centro Italiano di Parapsicologia]. During that period,
he wrote numerous books on parapsychology, many of them selling very well in
Italy. His Report on Dimension X [Rapporto dalla Dimensione X],
Mediterranee, Rome, went through 14 editions from 1973 to 1997.
In May, 1994, Dr. di Simone found
himself channeling the words of a spirit guide named Symbol. The spirit told the
researcher he was the same "Symbol" who had channeled four books to
French housewife Jeanne Laval from 1929 to 1937 (the four books are currently
available as a single title, L'Heure des Révélations--The Hour of
Revelations--from French-Canadian publisher Éditions de Mortagne in
Boucherville, Quebec, Canada).
"Symbol" had told Jeanne
Laval that he was the same spirit--then called the "Shadow of the
Sepulcher"--who had been chief among the disembodied entities to speak to
Victor Hugo on Jersey island (see New Paradigm Books's Conversations with
Eternity: The Forgotten Masterpiece of Victor Hugo, translated with a
commentary by John Chambers).
Perhaps it was no coincidence that
Symbol, A.K.A. the Shadow of the Sepulcher, had first come to the bilingual
French-Italian Dr. di Simone while he was working on the Italian translation of
the transcripts of the table-tapping séances of Victor Hugo (that translation
has not yet been published, but parts of it are available in Dr. di Simone's
quarterly review, Gnosis, E-mail address <gnosis@infinito.it>).
Dr. di Simone continued to channel
Symbol on and off through 1997 (since the publication of Symbole: L'Ultimo
Messaggio, in 1999, he has begun to channel this spirit again). The
transcripts of the 1994-1997 séances were published as a slim volume, by
Mediterranee, in Rome, in 1999.
Along with much else, Symbol asserts in
Dr. Giorgio di Simone's 1999 volume that man's soul is merely the vehicle that
permits the non-physical "spirit" of homo sapiens to live on earth for
a time, and that our "souls" die with our bodies if we do not make a
concerted effort in our lifetimes to expand beyond ourselves to "achieve
the conquest of immortality" beyond the grave. The immortality of the soul
is not then a given; immortality must be striven for actively during life.
Symbol tells us further that it is all
the more necessary that we make this transcendent effort of
self/soul-actualization in that more and more humans are being born without any
soul at all, and it is the responsibility of those who still possess souls to
reach out strenuously to help those who do not.
Despite all this, however, God is
utterly real if utterly unknowable, asserts Symbol. We are surrounded at all
times by spirit guides, who strive to help us to the extent that is permitted
them by God. But the ultimate effort lies with us alone. If we do not make that
effort--and immediately--then humankind itself is doomed to extinction. -
